San Pedro
Married life was a little difficult since Roy was still assigned to the USS California. Mae came to California and set up home in a rented apartment.
Life was tough, but they were young and in love and made the most of it. Money was always a problem in making ends meet.
When Mae became pregnant, they decided that she would return to Waco so that her parents could take care of her since Roy was frequently on sea duty. She returned home in January 1937.
On 13 April 1937, Roy was finally able to get stationed at San Pedro on permanent shore duty. His job was to help maintain the sports complex called Navy Field. He lived in a building they called the “shack” on the complex during this time.
